CHAPTER 14: Strategy and Society

Business firms create strategies to win in their market places in order to create superior economic returns for stakeholders. This chapter describes how another set of organizations use strategy, those focused on creating social, as opposed to economic, value. These social value/non-profit organizations can use the typical tools of strategy, but may use other tools as well, such as the Value Net. The chapter also introduces students to the emerging field of social entrepreneurship, where individuals or organizations use business principles to create social value.
